Common Questions About Metal Roofing

Is a metal roof expensive?     In comparison to a shingle roof it could be 2-3 times greater initially, but will last up to 5 times longer.  The first time you re-roof your shingle roof you have spent more than a metal roof.

Isn't a metal roof hot?     Metal reflects 70% of the suns energy.  Florida Solar Energy Center shows metal experienced 34% less heat gain than shingles thus reducing those air conditioning bills.

What about rust or gaping?    We use Acrilume for bare metals or Kynar finished painted metals both which are warranted for 20 years.

Aren't metal roofs noisy?    No.  The old systems were because there was no deck below the metal.  Today building codes require a solid deck which eliminates the noise.

Won't it look like a barn?     Only if you want it to.  Metal comes in an array of styles and colors.  I.E. Corragated V-Crimp to metal tile or shingles.

Can I put metal over my shingle roof?     Yes.  Thus saving on tear-off cost and inconvenience.  (Local building codes may vary.)

How long will my metal roof last?    It depends on the type.  The old cracker houses in central Florida had V-Crimp or Corrigated which last around 50 years vs a Stamping Seam roof that can exceed 100 years.
